(Helping Children of La Paz, B.C.S., Mexico achieve their dreams)
FANLAP’s major emphasis lies in helping children attend Junior and Senior school.
Our mission is to provide basic support and encouragement to children and adolescents from impoverished areas to improve the quality of their lives through education, training and nutrition.
Through fundraising events, such as Subasta, students receive necessary items to help ensure their success. Some of the items obtained or purchased for the students are as follows:
- uniforms and gym clothes
- school shoes
- tennis shoes
- backpacks
- school supplies
- transportation to and from school
- tuition is also paid for students of senior high.
At the end of the 2011 2012 school year, because of your help and the help of other donors, FANLAP has a total of 239 graduates of junior high school, 147 female and 92 male, and 54 students have finished senior high, 40 female and 14 male. Although our program does not include higher education, we do have donors who wish to help students continue after high school. We have had three students, all women, graduate from college. Presently our donors are helping an additional four students, three female and 1 male, complete their studies. We´re waiting for a sponsor to confirm that he will support a student to the Institute of Technology.
Students with a grade point average of 8.5 or better apply for scholarships the end of May each year. Once accepted, the students must maintain a grade point average of 8 out of a possible 10. The students also perform community service in exchange for what they receive.
Subasta, FANLAP’s main fundraising event, is a giant one-day occurrence with auctions (live and silent), a bazaar with used clothing, items for the home and boat, vendors selling various items including food and drinks, and a Raffle with prizes donated by local merchants. For more complete details and how you can help or make donations please go to the How You Can Help page.
FANLAP is the only non-profit organization in the state of Baja California Sur that is certified for professionalism and transparency by the Centro Mexicano para la Filantropia (Mexican Philanthropy Center), (CEMEFI), an organization of businesses, community foundations and civil organizations like FANLAP.
